When you make a phone call tell to the person in the other side, who you are and whom you want to talk.

Calling to mobile phone is expensive than land line.

When you are abroad you can make collect call through the operator and the call charges will be added to your home phone bill.

If dialed the land phones will give three kinds of tones.
01. Ringing
02. Engaged (someone is talking or the phone receiver is not placed properly.)
03. Disconnected.

Mobile phones may give another kind of tone if they are switched off.
Before calling some one in a foreign country check their local time to make sure that you are not disturbing them.

If your country allows you to use VoIP, and call through it, it is very cheap if bought it from a good company.

When there is thunderstorm don't use CDMA phones and mobile phones as a precaution method from dangerous lightning attacks.

In many countries using mobile phone while driving is prohibited by law. Use hands free.
Operator assisted calls are cheaper than the IDD calls.

International roaming is easier to make calls while you are visiting another country, but it will be expensive. So buy a local SIM card.

To achieve this you must have at least a Tri band mobile phone. Quad band is best.

Calling via satellite phone is possible from any where to any phone but the call charge may be around US$ 6.50 per minute.

Tool free numbers, there will be no charges if you call these numbers.

Premium numbers, if you call these numbers your account will be charged US$ 1 - 10 per each minutes.

If there is any collect call before say yes, ask clearly who is calling and from where. If the person is calling you from a developed country your charges may be higsh per minute.
