CDMA phone is becoming vey popular not only with rural folks but also with the town dwellers. The CDMA phones can be connected in the network within minutes of buying them rather than waiting for a land line connection for months. A fully charged CDMA phone can be carried with you in your vehicle as a mobile phone.
It will work wherever the carriers signal is available (In Sri Lanka CDMA network is currently operates on 800 MHz frequency.) In Sri Lanka CDMA lines are offered to customers by SLT, SUNTEL, LankaBell and Dialog. The phones can be bought for a down payment of US$ 50 and monthly rentals are around 4US$ or can be kept as pre-paid phone. This is expensive than the mobile phone in Sri Lanka but the call charges are very less when comparing with the mobile phones. These phones are not only offer calling and receiving facility.

To connect your laptop or PC to the internet through your CDMA phone you will need a wireless terminal data service cable which can be bought from your service provider at an extra cost. It is not recommended to use this wireless phone when you are experiencing lighting in your area.
To call a CDMA phone in Sri Lanka you must take care to include 0 in the front of the local number. This 0 should not be included while calling CDMA phones from overseas.
Also it is illegal to keep a CDMA phone in another area other than it is contracted for.
